Various GLP-1 products New

Enforcement | 27/05/2026

The BASG warns against illegal medicinal products (illegal medicinal product by presentation) marketed under the misleading name "GLP-1" because of their claims.

Currently, products labelled "GLP-1" are increasingly being advertised on various websites, online sales platforms and social media networks. These products are offered for example in the form of ampoules, vials or pens containing a clear liquid.

The composition of the ingredients contained in these products may vary and often does not correspond to the information stated on the label. In some cases, the products contain no active substance at all or contain an active substance different from the one declared.

In addition, the outer packaging misuses the BASG logo or that of other authorities and refers to fictitious certifications to falsely create the impression of official approval and to mislead consumers.

Medicinal products containing unknown active substances at unknown concentration pose a significant risk to patients, as an existing illness may remain untreated and possible adverse reactions cannot be determined.

Only authorised medicinal products are subject to regulatory control by competent authorities with regard to composition, quality, safety and efficacy. The BASG has no clinical data on the medical effects of products marketed under the designation "GLP-1". Moreover, no medicinal product bearing the name "GLP-1" is authorised.

Nevertheless, these products are offered for use in or on the human body and are claimed to treat, alleviate or prevent diseases. Products distributed in this manner are therefore illegal medicinal products.

The distribution of these products is illegal. The importation of products labelled "GLP-1" from abroad is a punishable offence.

If you have any information regarding this or similar illegal products, please report it directly to the Enforcement Section of the Federal Office for Safety in Health Care at enforcement@basg.gv.at.
