Discontinued pharmaceuticals

messages in brief | 23/10/2012

Unless marketing authorization holders have made use of the legal provision (Section 94 c (10) of the Austrian Medicines Act) and submitted the required renewal documents for a specific medicinal product to AGES Medizinmarktaufsicht by June 30, 2012, this product can only be marketed until December 31, 2012. As of January 2013, these products are no longer available on the market.

Included is that list of medicinal products that were available on the Austrian market as of July 2012 and will no longer be available in Austria as of January 1, 2013. These medicinal specialties are not disappearing for safety reasons, but due to the fact that therapies are always kept up to date through constant research and progress.

This measure ensures that Austrian patients are provided exclusively with the best-tested medicines and that the therapy of their diseases corresponds to the current state of knowledge. There are usually sufficient alternative preparations to replace an old product. Information on this can be provided by the attending physician or pharmacist.
