Important information about the risks for pets when using hormone-containing medicines on the skin of humans

  • Hormone-containing medicines can be applied to the skin of humans as sprays, gels, creams or ointments to treat a hormone deficiency. Through direct or indirect contact, active substance residues can be transferred from the skin to pets and cause symptoms of illness.
  • In the handout you will find detailed information on the possible transmission routes, the various disease symptoms in dogs and cats and the recommended precautions to avoid accidental hormone transmission to pets.
