The Federal Office for Safety in Health Care (BASG) has been informed by the Italian authority that ID WNV NAT testing for donations of blood and blood components has been introduced in the following regions due to cases that have occurred:

Alessandria, Ancona, Asti, Arezzo, Avellino, Barletta-Andria-Trani, Benevento, Bergamo, Biella, Bologna, Brescia, Brindisi, Cagliari, Caltanissetta, Campobasso, Caserta, Catania, Catanzaro, Chieti, Como, Cosenza, Cremona, Cuneo, Fermo, Ferrara, Florence, Forlì-Cesena, Foggia, Frosinone, Genoa, Gorizia, Grosseto, Isernia, L'Aquila, Latina, Lecce, Lecco, Lodi, Lucca, Macerata, Mantua, Massa-Carrara, Matera, Messina, Milano, Modena, Monza Brianza, Naples, Novara, Nuoro, Oristano, Padua, Palermo, Parma, Pavia, Perugia, Piacenza, Pordenone, Ragusa, Ravenna, Reggio Calabria, Reggio Emilia, Rimini, Rome, Rovigo, Salerno, Sassari, Siena, Sondrio, Sud Sardegna, Syracuse, Treviso, Torino, Udine, Varese, Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, Vercelli, Veneto, Verona, Vicenza

In Italy, the precautionary measures against WNV transmission through transfusion were lifted on 1 December for the 2025 season.
