The Federal Office for Safety in Health Care was informed by the Italian authority, that in the province of Verbano-Cusio Ossola (Piedmont Region), active surveillance of the targetbird species, WNV has been detected.
For this reason, a new health surveillance will be carried out for donors of blood and blood components (in addition to the regions already announced) in this region ID WNV NAT testing.
Nationwide in Italy, donors who have spent at least one night in this region will be are excluded from donation for 28 days.
Therefore, it is requested to pay attention to this in the anamnesis interviews and donor selections.
