Incidents with extemporaneously compounded noscapine cough syrup - Usage is strongly not recommended

Safety warnings | Medicines | 06/02/2020

Due to incidents that have become known today (two reported cases of poisoning in small children, suspicion of atropine contamination) in connection with extemporaneously compounded noscapine cough syrups, it is recommended as a preventive safety measure not to use any noscapine cough syrup purchased in pharmacies and prepared there until further notice. The warning also applies to other noscapine-containing preparations such as noscapine suppositories. This measure is a precautionary measure. Further investigations are currently on going.
