Amendment to the Export Ban on Medicinal Products New
An amendment to the regulation on ensuring the provision of medicinal products (Federal Law Gazette II No. 294/2026) entered into force on 9 October 2026.
The previous limitation of the export ban to exports in the European Economic Area (EEA) has been abolished.
The export ban now applies generally. This means that wholesalers are no longer permitted to trade these medicinal products out of Austria.
Excepted from this is the export for an individual named patient for the immediate prevention of a threat to life or serious damage to health ("Named Patient Use").
The current list of medicinal products subject to the export ban is available in the Medikamente-Info-Austria-Portal (MIA) of the Austrian Federal Office for Safety in Health Care (BASG).
