PANGEA VI: Worldwide Internet Raid

messages in brief | 27/06/2013

More than 100 countries participated in this year's week of action against the illegal sale of medicines on the Internet.

In total, more than nine million potentially dangerous medicines worth around 41 million US dollars were seized worldwide. Austria successfully participated for the sixth time in the global action, which took place this year from 18 to 25 June.

In the course of the interministerial and interdepartmental action, BASG / AGES Medizinmarktaufsicht was responsible for monitoring suspicious websites through which medicines are distributed. In the process, around 46 websites were observed. "The consumer cannot assess the dangers posed by these medicines at all. Many of these medicines can have a lasting impact on the health of consumers due to missing or incorrectly dosed active ingredients," explains Univ.-Prof. Dr. Marcus Müllner, head of the BASG.

BASG / AGES Medizinmarktaufsicht expressly warns consumers against buying medicines on the Internet.
