Reminder: private sale of medicines prohibited

Safety warnings | messages in brief | 06/03/2017

Due to current events (see screenshot), the Federal Office for Safety in Health Care points out that according to §59 of the Medicines Act, private individuals are prohibited from offering medicines privately for sale to other persons or from trading with them in general. The offering of medicinal products, in particular via Internet platforms such as "willhaben.at", is already unlawful and the seller is therefore liable to prosecution. Medicines may only be prescribed by doctors or dispensed by pharmacies. Private trade and resale, on the other hand, is not permitted and also represents a considerable risk for health reasons. Medicines that are no longer needed can and should rather be returned to the pharmacy for disposal.
