The new medicines information system of the Federal Office for Safety in Health Care (BASG) will go live on 10 February 2026. The previous information from the "Medicinal product index", the "Shortages index", the"Export ban index", the "BASG announcements" and the "BASG votes" will be merged into a compact medicines information portal at medikamente.basg.gv.at.

Marketing authorisation holders who are required to stockpile a medicinal product for human use will be informed by the BASG by e-mail about the start of the stockpiling demand notification(s).

To better monitor and, if necessary, counteract supply shortages of medicinal products at EU level, the European Shortages Monitoring Platform (ESMP) was established by the EMA in accordance with the Regulation (EU) 2022/123. The full version of the platform was launched in January 2025.
